On 5th of March 2012 class 4 visited the La Marie Treatment plant as part of their curriculum. The visit started by the children getting an explanation of the different methods used to purify water: the slow-gravity method and rapid gravity method. The slow-gravity method is the old method of purifying water where water slowly moves over 20-24 filter beds found in the yard of the station. The rapid gravity method happens more quickly and a chemical called Aluminium sulphate is added to clean the water. In both methods chlorine is added to the water to kill all harmful bacteria.
